untitled - juxtapositions #5

Thank you for joining me here for this quiet little conversation, taking a moment to be with these thoughts, words and images.

‘untitled (juxtapositions #5)' the cloth palette for the painting

side view: layers upon layers, hand painted and marked cloth, machine stitched threads, luscious threads stitched by hand

small stitches in the palest blues nestling amongst the quiet foundations created by the darker blue grey thread

sometimes the light blue thread marks make me think of a bubbly froth along the crest of a wave, other times, i see the light of a pathway meandering gracefully across the surface of the painting

almost always paintings tell me their name - this one, the final one in the group of five juxtapositions artworks, has quietly kept that to itself

And as always, I want to express my gratitude to be living and working on the ancestral & unceded territories of the hən̓̓qəmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh speaking peoples.I honour the incredible depths of grace, courage and perseverance of Indigenous Peoples, and look to them as an example as they find their voices amidst the noise and obfuscation of colonization.

until next time,

Mardell
