conversations - explorations in the light

Thank you for joining me here for this quiet little conversation, taking a moment to be with these thoughts, words and images.

surface layer of the dark grey black ‘liminal’ painting (first of three)

the first layer of this painting is complete and i am pulled in to the light sections curious about where it will lead

the little glimpse in the bottom left corner a quiet invitation to explore what lies there

the next painting is slowly coming to life on the design wall

i thought this piece was going to begin lighter than it has, but as you can by the end of day 3 it is definitely shifting to the lighter greys from the palette for this painting

one of my favourite things about my process is to become aware of the conversation happening within each work as it unfolds

end of day 3 progress on the mid grey black ‘liminal’ painting (second of three)

I'm going to leave it here for this week's conversation - my nervous system is working hard during a major construction project underway in my home for the next several weeks. I'm following the encouragement I'm always advocating for you - taking time to do the things that nurture you and find your sanctuary

Leaving you with the image of ‘wild things (juxtapostions #3)’ in an open airy setting

And as always, I want to express my gratitude to be living and working on the ancestral & unceded territories of the hən̓̓qəmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh speaking peoples.I honour the incredible depths of grace, courage and perseverance of Indigenous Peoples, and look to them as an example as they find their voices amidst the noise and obfuscation of colonization.

until next time,

Mardell
