from beyond the horizon there came a message

Thank you for joining me here for this quiet little conversation, taking a moment to be with these thoughts, words and images.

Stacking up cloth curating a palette for juxtapositions #2

i remember choosing the palette for this painting - how cool and calm and sweet it felt

the colours and textures calling me to a quiet beach along the inner waterways of the west coast a place where the horizon holds a beckoning clue to the message whispering from just over the edge

work in progress

every element of the painting eloquent with elegance grace tranquility the softness of the tones the subtle colour variations the closely stitched thread the hand stitched thread infused with the palest blue colour making just a suggestion as it traverses the painting from side to side, a few lines of stitching enough to establish a presence saying so much with the lightest suggestion

one of my most favourite things about this painting is the way the white threads navigate the painting, echoing the pale blue of the top section with the slightest wisps of light the beauty of this subtle contrast so refined and understated

it was a big departure for me to contrast the machine stitched threads with the cloth underneath but i'm so glad i did

contemporary minimalist textile painting

stitching the variegated threads by machine, adding another layer of colour texture motion

cloth dye thread painting contemporary abstract

and finally, on the wall, the embodiment of serene elegant minimalist

And as always, I want to express my gratitude to be living and working on the ancestral & unceded territories of the hən̓̓qəmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh speaking peoples.I honour the incredible depths of grace, courage and perseverance of Indigenous Peoples, and look to them as an example as they find their voices amidst the noise and obfuscation of colonization.

until next time,

Mardell
